I actually designed and developed our mythstik in the spirit of Renaissance, a period in time when children lived what we now call myth.
I believe toys should strengthen and encourage the young child's fantasy life so that a child can submerge himself in play, in the world of myth and fairy tales.
The important thing to us is that the toy must be pleasing to look at and very comfortable to touch and hold. There is much more involved in the process than just rounding the edges, the form must be sculpted in, you have to look into the wood and see the finished animal and then have the knowledge and skill with your tools to cut and sand away everything but the finished form.
Wood is natural and regenerative. It stimulates the senses. It has texture it is sometimes light, sometimes dark, it is hard or it is soft. It is rough or smooth and smells good. It sounds different, it is heavy or it is light. It has its own temperature. Bacteria can not reproduce on wood. If it breaks, you can fix it, and it is recyclable.
The finishing process of our wooden animal crafts is key to their beauty. When finishing a natural wooden toy, you need a finish that will help to keep the toy clean and add to its water resistance, for any well made toy has to be ready for any adventure it may be called to embark upon.
